Uluslararası etik, devletler arası ilişkilerde ne tür davranışların ahlaki olduğunu açıklamaya çalışan; 'toplulukçuluk' ve 'kozmopolitanizm' adı verilen iki ana teoriden oluşmaktadır. Her iki teori de, modern ahlak felsefesinin iki temel yaklaşımı olan 'teleolojik' ve 'deontolojik' etikten beslenmektedir. Evrensellik iddiasına ve temellere dayanan bir yaklaşıma sahip modern etik'i, postmodern perspektif derin şüphe ve etkili bir eleştiriyle karşılamaktadır. Postmodern etik anlayışın sahip olduğu temel ve evrensellik karşıtlığı, modern etik'in ahlakilik iddiasının hiç de sağlam olmadığını göstermektedir. Çünkü postmodern anlayışta ahlaki davranışın ortaya çıkması, 'öteki'ne karşı ahlaki sorumluluk duygusunun ortaya çıkmasına bağlıdır ve modern etik teorilerin bunu engelleyen bir işleve sahip olduğu düşünülmektedir. Postmodern eleştirel okuma neticesinde, modern etik'in üzerine inşa edilmiş uluslararası etik teorilerinin teorik örgüsünü oluşturan ve ahlakilik iddialarını çürüten üç esas temaya ulaşmaktayız: Rasyonalite, kimlik ve evrenselleştirilebilirlik. Modern (uluslararası) etik, ahlakı, kimliklerin/benliklerin, evrensel kabul edilen rasyonaliteye dayanan kural ve ilkelere göre davranmaları olarak görmekteyken; postmodern etik, bu temaların ahlakiliği engellediğini savunmaktadır. İşte bu tez, söz konusu üç temanın, uluslararası etik teorilerinin öne sürdüğü ahlakilik iddiasının açmazlarını oluşturduğunu iddia etmektedir. Bundan dolayı, ayrıca bu tez, uluslararası ilişkilerde ahlaki davranış imkânının teorik olarak güçlenmesinin, açmazları oluşturan ve teorik tasarımın temel öğeleri olan rasyonalite, kimlik ve evrensellik iddialarının zayıflamasına bağlı olduğunu ileri sürmektedir. International ethics is comprised of two main theories, called 'communitarianism' and 'cosmopolitanism' which are dealing with what kind of actions are moral in relations between states. The both theories are maintained respectively by 'teleological' and 'deontological' approaches of modern moral philosophy. Modern ethics, which has an approach based on universality claim and foundations, is handled by postmodern perspective with a deep suspicion and an effective criticism. Antifoundational and anti-universality understanding of postmodern ethics shows that the moral claim of modern ethics is not so strong at all. Because, in postmodern mind, the appearance of moral action depends on revelation of the feeling of responsibility for 'the other' and it is thought that modern ethic theories function as an obstruction of this. In the end of postmodern critical reading, we reach three principal themes that form theoretical knitting of the theories of international ethics which has built on modern ethics: rationality, identity and universalizability. While modern (international) ethics consider morality as acting of identities/selves according to rules and principles based on universal rationality; postmodern ethics defends these themes hinder morality. This thesis claims that the three themes in question here constitute the impasses of morality claims of the theories of international ethics. Therefore, this thesis puts also forward that growing theoretical possibility of moral action in international relations depends on rationality, identity and universality claims which are the basic elements of theoretical design and impasses.
