Bu çalışmada, 2008 yılında ABD'de konut kredisi sektöründe verilen kredilerin geri ödenmesinde yaşanan sorunların tetiklemesiyle başlayan ve daha sonrasında Avrupa Birliği ülkelerini etkisi altına alan küresel ekonomik krizin Avrupa Birliği'nin geleceğine olan etkileri incelenmiştir. Çalışmanın uygulama bölümünde, krizin yaşandığı yıllarda ortak para birimini kullanan on beş Avrupa Birliği üye ülkesinin makroekonomik verilerine küresel krizin etkileri panel veri analizi yöntemi kullanılarak araştırılmıştır. Araştırmanın sonucunda 2008 yılında meydana gelen küresel krizin ele alınan on beş ülkenin büyümesini olumsuz yönde etkilediği ortaya çıkmıştır. Analiz sonucunda ortaya çıkan bulgular, Avrupa Birliği'nin güncel siyasi sorunları ile Kuzey Afrika ve Ortadoğu kaynaklı göç krizi ile beraber incelenerek Avrupa Birliği'nin siyasi ve ekonomik geleceğine ilişkin tahminler yapılmıştır. Sonuç olarak, Çok Vitesli Avrupa fikrinin gün geçtikçe genişleyen Avrupa Birliği'nin siyasi ve ekonomik geleceği için başarılı bir yöntem olacağı değerlendirilmiştir. In this study the impact of the global economic crisis on the future of the European Union, which began in 2008 with the triggering of problems in the repayment of loans granted in the housing loan sector in the United States and subsequently affected the European Union countries, was examined. In the practice part of the study, the effects of the global crisis on the macroeconomic data of fifteen European Union member states using the common currency in the years of the crisis were explored using panel data analysis. As a result of the analysis, it was revealed that the global crisis that took place in 2008 affected the growth of the fifteen countries that were discussed in the negative direction. The findings of the analysis were analyzed together with the current political problems of the European Union and the crisis of migration arised from North Africa and the Middle East and the estimations about the political and economic future of the European Union were made. As a result, the multi-speed European idea was considered to be a successful method for the ever-widening European Union's political and economic future.
