Bu çalışmanın amacı, küreselleşme ve bölgeselleşme süreci Denizli ekonomisi ve tekstil sektörüne yönelik gelişmeleri ve sorunları belirlemektir. 15. ve 16. yüzyıllarda Rönesans ve Reform hareketleriyle başlayan küreselleşme, 18. ve 19. yüzyılda Fransız İhtilali ve Sanayi Devrimleri çerçevesinde gelişerek II. Dünya Savaşı sonrasında Bretton Woods Sisteminin kurulmasıyla kendini daha belirgin bir şekilde hissettirmeye başlamıştır. Ekonomik sistemde yeniliklere yönelmeye başlanmasıyla ortaya çıkan küresel ve bölgesel kuruluşlar küreselleşmeye hız kazandırmıştır. Küreselleşmeyle bağlantılı olarak ortaya çıkan ve bölgesel anlamda ekonomik ve sosyal refahı hedefleyen diğer kuruluşların ortaya çıkması ise "bölgeselleşme" kavramını yaratmıştır. 1980'lerden itibaren dünya ekonomisinin hızla büyümesi ve ihracata ağırlık veren ekonomik sistemlerin uygulanmaya başlanması rekabeti artırarak ekonomilerdeki girişimci sayısının artmasını sağlamıştır. Bu gelişmeler çerçevesinde dünya ticaretinden aldığı payı artırmak isteyen Türkiye'de sanayileşme hareketleri artarak yeni girişimciler ortaya çıkmaya başlamıştır. Bu süreç, Türkiye'deki bir kısım tasarrufların ve sermaye birikiminin yatırımlara dönüşmesine katkıda bulunarak "kent ekonomilerinin" doğmasını sağlamıştır. Bu çalışmada, söz konusu dönemden itibaren kendini gösteren ve yeni girişimlerle sanayide gelişme kaydeden kent ekonomilerinden Denizli ili tekstil sektörü incelenmektedir. Saha araştırması uygulanan ve tekstil sektöründe üretim yapan işletmelerden edinilen bilgiler doğrultusunda yapılan analizlere göre, bu sektörün gelişme kaydetmekte olan bir sektör olduğuna, ancak çözümlenmesi gereken finansal ve istihdam sorunlarının bulunduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. The purpose of the dissertation is to examine the impact of the globalization and regionalization on the textile industry in the economy of Denizli, Turkey. The study has been specifically focus on the developments in the textile industry that has emerged during the process of globalization. It is a wellknown fact that the globalization has started during the Renaissance movements, has flourished during the industrialization period, and has strongly extended with the Breton Woods. Thus, historically speaking, the globalization process has brought about the birth of new regional and international institutions along with it. Therefore, it has resulted in the creation of the concept of the regionalism. After 1980s, this process has accompanied with the export oriented type of economic growth and development strategies. These developments have intensified the international competition and caused the creation of so called "urban economies". Consequently, this process has also benefitted the textile industries in Denizli, Turkey. The developments in this industries in Denizli, Turkey have not only created employment opportunities in this sector, but they have also risen saving in the local economy. It has been found that the textile industries have financing and other problems. All in all, according the results of the study, this industry has enormous potential to benefit from.
