Demokrasi ve ekonomik performans arasındakiilişkiler sosyal bilimciler özellikle de ekonomistleri son birkaç yüzyıldırilgilendiren konulardandır. Ancak son dönemlerde özellikle Orta Doğu’da yaşanandemokratikleşme hareketleri, demokrasi ile ekonomik büyüme arasındaki ilişkininyeniden gündeme gelmesine neden olmuştur. Bu çalışma ile demokrasi ilegelişme-büyüme arasındaki ilişkiyi inceleyen farklı görüşleri sunarak, ikikavram arasındaki ilişkinin daha belirgin hale getirilmesine katkı sağlamak veözellikle ampirik çalışmalar ışığında 21. yüzyılda bu ilişkinin nasıl olduğunu(varlığı/yokluğu, yönü, derecesi) irdelemek amaçlanmıştır. Yapılan kuramsal veampirik değerlendirmede, genel anlamıyla ekonomik büyüme açısından demokratikkurumların daha elverişli (olumlu) olduğu söylenebilir. Bu sonuç, demokrasi ileekonomik büyüme arasında pozitif ilişki olduğunu ifade eden Bağdaşma Yaklaşımını desteklemektedir. Türkiye’dedemokrasi-ekonomik büyüme ilişkisini araştıran az sayıda çalışmaincelendiğinde, uluslararası literatürdeki her üç görüşe uygun sonuçların eldeedildiği görülmüştür. |

The relationship between democracy and economicperformance has been the subject of interest to social scientists, especiallyeconomists, for the past few centuries. However, the democratization movements experienced in the Middle Eastrecently have caused the relationship between democracy and economic growth tobecome a current issue. The study aims to contribute making the relationbetween democracy and development-growth more prominent by presenting differentviews that are related to these two concepts, and to examine how this relation(presence/absence, direction, grade) in the 21st century particularlyin the light of empirical studies. Following the theoretical and empiricalevaluation, it can be claimed in general that the democratic institutions aremore favorable (positive) in terms of economic growth. This result supports the CompatibilityPerspective that expresses a positive relationship between democracy andeconomic growth. Considering the small number of studies investigating therelationship of democracy and economic growth in Turkey, it is seen that theresults are in accordance with all three views in the international literature. |
