Neredeyse insanlık tarihi ile yaşıt bir bitki olarak gül, Doğu ve Batı edebiyatlarında çeşitli yönleriyle işlenen bir sembol değeri kazanır. Özellikle mitolojide yer alan ve güle atfedilen anlatılar, şairler için bitmez tükenmez bir kaynak niteliği taşımaktadır. Mitleri zamanla yeniden yorumlayan edebiyatçılar, gülü bir arketip olarak eserlerine taşırlar. Türk edebiyatında da gül başlı başına bir mazmun olarak hep gündemdedir. Gerek mitolojiden beslenen yazar ve şairlerimizin eserlerinde mitik yönleriyle, gerekse gül ve bülbüle atfedilen efsanenin işlenişi ile klâsik ve kültürel birikimden faydalanan sanatçılarımızın ürünlerinde gül, eskimeyen bir sembol olarak kullanılmıştır, ancak anlam katmanları sürekli genişlese de mitoloji bağı hiçbir zaman kopmamıştır |
