Bu çalışmada üniversitenin misyonlarının tarihsel süreç içerisindeki değişimleri irdelenmiş ve günümüzde gelinen noktanın tespit edilmesi hedeflenmiştir. Günümüzde üniversite kamuya, devlete, piyasaya ve hatta tüm insanlığa karşı sorumlu bir kurumdur. Sorumluluk inisiyatifine bırakılmış bir sorumluluk da değildir. Üniversite misyonlarını yerine getirmek için ihtiyacı olan kaynakları, büyük oranda çevreden sağlamaktadır. Netice itibari ile günümüz üniversitelerine ilişkin beş temel misyon tespit edilmiştir: eğitim, araştırma, ulusallaşma, demokratikleşme ve kamu hizmeti. Bunların dışında ulus devletler birlikteliğine hizmet veya tüm dünyaya hizmet olarak adlandırılabilecek yeni bir misyonun yakın zamanda üniversitelerce paylaşılacağına ilişkin sinyaller de mevcuttur |

In this study, how the mission of universities have been changed throughout the history is investigated. It also touches on the current status of universities. Today universities are responsible towards public, state, market and the whole humanity. This responsibility is not a matter of choice. In order to execute their mission, universities meet their needs and get their supplies from the environment. Universities have five fundamental missions: education, research, nationalization, democratization, and public service. There are also signals that universities will carry out the mission of serving the integration of states and the whole world |
