4 Ekim 1914 tarihinde Isparta-Burdur hattında bir deprem meydana gelmiştir. Bu deprem Isparta ve Burdur merkez olmak üzere çevresini etkilemiştir. Deprem sonucunda birçok insan ölmüş, birçoğu da yaralanmıştır. Birçok bina da ya tamamen yıkılmış ya da hasar görmüştür. Bunun üzerine Osmanlı yetkilileri vakit kaybetmeden depremzedelerin yaralarını sarmak için Hilâl-i Ahmer Cemiyetini görevlendirmiştir. Cemiyet, yardımların yerine getirilmesi için içerisinde doktor, hastabakıcı, aşçı ve idare memurunun da bulunduğu bir İmdat Heyeti oluşturmuş ve heyeti hemen deprem bölgesine göndermiştir. İmdat Heyeti aracılığıyla depremzedelerin yiyecek ve giyecek ihtiyaçlarının tedarik edilmesine çalışılmıştır. Ayrıca barınma sorunlarının giderilmesi için barakalar ya da evler yapılıncaya kadar çadırlar sağlanarak, buralarda yaşamalarına imkân tanınmıştır. Hilâl-i Ahmer Cemiyetinin yapmış olduğu yardım faaliyetleri yerel yetkililerin dikkatinden kaçmamış, bu nedenle yetkililer, Cemiyete olan memnuniyetlerini ve teşekkürlerini bildiren telgraflar çekmişlerdir |

An earthquake occurred in Burdur-Isparta terrain on 4th September, 1914 striking particularly the centrum of Isparta and Burdur and their vicinities. The earthquake led to loss of many deaths and injuries. Besides, several buildings were completely destroyed or damaged. For this reason, Ottoman authorities immediately charged Red Crescent Association for delivering aid to the victims. The association formed an emergency committee including doctors, nurses, cooks and civil servants and sent them to the area. The emergency committee tried to cater for food and clothing needs. Furthermore, tents had been pitched and supplied to the victims until sheds or houses were erected in order to solve accommodation problems. The activities of the Ottoman Red Crescent Association were not ignored by the local authorities; thus they sent telegrams pronouncing their appreciations and gratitudes to the association. |
