This study aims at investigating the political values of the members of the decision making body of local governments, which are one of the most significant bodies in accordance with the principle of close public relations. The amendments made in the Metropolitan City Municipality Act have not only increased the duties and powers of the members of the Municipality Council but also enlarged their service areas. Accordingly, the act increased the importance of the members of the Municipality Council. A survey was conducted to compare the political values of the members of the Municipality Council of two neighboring metropolitan cities, i.e. Gaziantep and Şanlıurfa, by considering their socio economical statuses |

Bu çalışma, demokratik sistemin halka yakınlık ilkesi uyarınca en önemli organlarından birisi olan yerel yönetimlerin karar organı üyelerinin siyasal değerlerini öğrenmeyi amaç edinmiştir. Büyükşehir Belediyesi Kanunu’nda yapılan değişikliklerle büyükşehir belediye meclis üyelerinin hem görev ve yetkileri artmış hem hizmet alanları genişlemiştir. Buna göre belediye meclis üyelerinin önemi artmıştır. Buradan yola çıkarak bu çalışmada komşu iki şehir olan Gaziantep ve Şanlıurfa illerinin, sosyo-ekonomik durumları göz önünde bulundurularak, büyükşehir belediye meclis üyelerinin siyasal değerleri bir anket çalışmasıyla karşılaştırılmıştır |
