This paper aims at exhibiting the symbolsused in Tolkien’s The Lord of the Ringsfrom the perspective of the Holy Quran. Tolkien’s religious background and theuse of the symbols in The Lord of theRings referring to the Holy Quran have been demonstrated by examples.Tolkien was a Catholic so his religious education and upbringing play asignificant role in his work. The creatures and characters used in The Lord of the Rings are representativeof the ones mentioned in the Holy Quran. The concept and philosophy of heavenand hell, good and evil, even darkness and light mentioned in Tolkien’s workresemble the concept of heaven and hell mentioned in the Holy Quran. Two towersused by Tolkien refer to heaven and hell, good and evil. The speaking trees orEnts used by Tolkien to help the good ones referring to the Quran have alsobeen dealt with. How Tolkien uses Elves in his work has been compared to Jinnsmentioned in the Holy Quran. And the Prophet David’s armour making have beencompared to Biblos Mithril in The Lord ofthe Rings. In Al Jinn Surah the Almighty describes Jinn as a kingdom with itsown king and soldiers as the portrait of Elves depicted in the Lord of the Rings. |

Bu çalışma, Tolkien’in Yüzüklerin Efendisi adlı eserinde kullandığı ve Kuranı Kerim’e göndergeyapan sembolleri ele almaktadır. Tolkien’in dini geçmişi ve Yüzüklerin Efendisi’nde Kuranı Kerim’egönderme yapan semboller örnekleriyle gösterilmiştir. Tolkien Katolikti vealmış olduğu dini eğitim ve Katolik yetiştirilme tarzı eserlerinde önemli birrol oynamaktadır. Yüzüklerin Efendisi’ndekiyaratıklar ve karakterler, Kuranı Kerim’de bahsedilenlerle benzerliklergöstermektedir. Yüzüklerin Efendisi’ndekicennet ve cehennem, iyi ve kötü, karanlık ve aydınlık gibi ele alınan kavramlarKuranı Kerim’de ele alındığı şekliyle irdelenmiştir. Tolkien’in kullanmışolduğu iki kule, iyi ve kötüye işaret etmektedir. Kuranı Kerim’de bahsedilenkıyamet günü konuşan ağaçlar ve cinler YüzüklerinEfendisi ile kıyaslanmıştır. Hz. Davut’un demiri işleyerek zırh yapışı ile Yüzüklerin Efendisi’nde BiblosMithril’in zırhı karşılaştırılmıştır. Ayrıca Kuranı Kerim’de Cin suresindebahsedilen cin krallığı ve askerileri ile YüzüklerinEfendisi’nde tasvir edilen cinler (Elves) karşılaştırılmalı bir şekilde elealınmıştır. |
