One of the most important characteristics of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk was his efforts at establishing a scientific, rational and realist thought to dominate all fields of Turkish society. Atatürk firmly believed that the most permanent way of establishing this understanding was through education. He thus laid the foundations of a national, secular and modern education with the Tevhid-i Tedrisat (Unification of Education) Law. Ataturk also made a great effort at the opening of Higher Education institutions which was to play an important role at the young generation’s gaining of scientific and rational thought alongside with basic education. Not only did he pioneer the opening of these schools, Atatürk also closely followed the developments in this field. Hence, the basic principle of raising generations with free thought, free conscience and free comprehension is the essence of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’s scientific understanding. Thus, Atatürk’s efforts at establishing the scientific, rational and realist thought to dominate the society has been the keystone of both basic education and higher education. |

Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’ün en önemli özelliklerinden birisi, bilimsel, akılcı ve gerçekçi bir düşünceyi Türk toplumunun bütün alanlarına egemen kılma çabasıdır. Bu anlayışı yerleştirmenin en kalıcı yolunun eğitimden geçtiğini hemen her konuşmasında vurgulayan Atatürk, Tevhid-i Tedrisat Kanunuyla milli, laik ve çağdaş bir eğitimin temellerini atmıştır. Temel eğitimin yanı sıra, bilimsel ve akılcı düşüncenin genç nesle kazandırılmasında önemli rol oynayacak olan Yüksek Öğretim kurumlarının açılması konusunda da büyük çaba sarfeden Atatürk, sadece bu okulların kurulmasına öncülük etmemiş, gelişmeleri de yakından takip etmiştir. Nitekim, fikri hür, vicdanı hür, irfanı hür nesiller yetiştirmenin temel prensibi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’ün bilimsellik anlayışında saklıdır. Dolayısıyla Atatürk’ün bilimsel, akılcı ve gerçekçi bir düşünceyi topluma egemen kılma çabası gerek temel eğitimin gerekse yüksek öğretimin temel taşı olmuştur. |
