In this work, different aspects of how we perceive the world we live in and how we see “our” position –without being aware- are discussed. Meaning and creation of the indicators world in an urban environment which is dreamed and dwelled in constitute the main theme of the subject. While analyzing the subject, literary works –stories- are of beneficence. First of all, after dealing with the meaning of urban and urban modernity and its historical process, the answers to our question as „How Free Are We?‟ in our daily lives as being modern types in metropolitan cities in terms of its relation with the modern city are sought. Along with the references acquired from Orhan Kemal‟s stories called „Önce Ekmek‟ (Bread Comes First) and „Çamaşırcının Kızı‟ (Daughter of the Laundress), also cited in this work. In this study, the effect of modernism to the people is analyzed. |

Bu çalışmada içinde yaşadığımız dünyayı ve „kendi‟ yerimizi nasıl gördüğümüzün -farkında olmayarak– farklı biçimleri ele alınmaktadır. Anlam, hayal edilen ve içinde yaşanılan „metropol ortamı‟ içerisinde göstergeler dünyasının yaratılması, konunun özünü oluşturmaktadır. Konuyu incelerken edebiyat eserlerinden –öykülerden– yararlanılmaktadır. Öncelikle kent ve kentsel modernitenin neler olduklarını, tarihsel sürecini ele aldıktan sonra; çağdaş kentle ilişkisi açısından „metropol‟lerde biz modern tiplerin, gündelik yaşamlarımız içerisinde „ne kadar özgürüz?‟ sorusunun cevapları aranmaktadır. Orhan Kemal‟in „Önce Ekmek‟ ve „Çamaşırcının Kızı‟ adlı öykü kitaplarından edinilen referanslara çalışmada yer verilmektedir. Çalışmada modernleşme sürecinin bireylere olan etkisinin sanat eserleri üzerinden aktarılması incelenmektedir. |
