Kalça artroplastisinin tarihçesi üç temel aşamada ele alınabilir, bunlar; osteotomi artroplastisi, interpozisyonel artroplasti ve protez artroplastisidir. Osteoartroz, kalça kırıklarının tedavisinde ve zaman zaman kalça displazilerinde protez uygulamaları yararlarını kanıtlamış bulunmaktadır. Bu girişimlerin başarılı olabilmesinde diğer bir önkoşul ise uygun ve yeterli biyomekanik özelliklere sahip biyomateryallerin kullanımıdır. Bu makalede, total kalça atroplastisinin tarihçe ve gelişiminin özetlenerek sunulması amaçlanmıştır. Prosthetic procedures have proven its value for treating pathologies such as osteoarthritis, hip fractures and occasionally for hip dysplasia,. Another point on the success of these procedures is the biomaterial point of view.
