The number of patients, who are waiting for transplantation, increases day by day in Turkey. Therefore, most of these patients die at transplantation process. One of the main problems regarding transplantation process is poor management of the detection of brain death. This problem leads to both a decrease of possible appropriate donor and unnecessary obstruction of intensive care unit beds. Ülkemizde uygun organ temininde yetersizlik sonucu organ nakli bekleyen hastaların listesi gün geçtikçe uzamakta, böylece organ nakil programında bulunan birçok hasta nakil beklerken kaybedilmektedir. Ülkemizde organ nakli ile ilgili en önemli sorunlardan biri beyin ölümünün teşhis sürecinin doğru ve bilinçli olarak yönetilememesidir. Böylece hem uygun donör bulunma olasılığı azalmakta hem de beyin ölümü gerçekleşmiş olan hastanın gereksiz yere yoğun bakımı işgal etme süreci uzamaktadır. Bu derlemede beyin ölümü teşhisi ile ilgili kısa ve öz bilgiler verilmesi ve böylece beyin ölümü teşhisi hususuna Türkçe literatüre bir katkı sağlanması amaçlandı.The numbers of patients, who are waiting for transplantation, increase day by day in Turkey.
