Hentbol da, sporcuların birbirleriyle yakın temasta olduğu ve aktivitenin yoğun olarak yaşandığı bir spordur. Bu çalışmanın amacı, hentbol sporcularının dental travma insidansını, ağız koruyucusu kullanım alışkanlıklarını ve dental travma ile karşılaştıklarında uygulayabilecekleri ilkyardım bilgilerini değerlendirmektir. Çalışma, halen Türkiye 1. liginde ve süper liginde yer alan 3 erkek hentbol takımının oyuncuları üzerinde yüz yüze anket yöntemi ile gerçekleştirilmiştir. Çalışmaya katılan hentbol sporcularının yüksek düzeyde (%33,3) dental travmaya maruz kaldığı, ancak çoğunluğunun ağız koruyucularından haberdar olmasına (%75) rağmen hiçbirinin ağız koruyucusu kullanmadığı saptanmıştır.. Bu pilot çalışmada elde edilen bilgiler, Türkiye liglerinde spor yapan diğer oyuncular üzerinde de kapsamlı bir çalışma yapılarak, sporcuların dental travmaya karşı bilinçlendirilmesi ve ağız koruyucusu kullanımının artırılması yönünde daha çok çalışma yapılması gerekliliğini ortaya koymaktadır. Handball is also a sport activity that the players contact intensively with the rival. The aim of this study was to investigate the dental trauma incidence, the first aid knowledge about dental trauma, awereness and the use of mouthguard of handball players. This study is conducted by a face to face questionnary interview with the players of the 3 teams of the 1st national and the super leauge in Turkey. Within the limitations of this study, the results indicated that handball players experienced dental trauma with a high rate (%33,3). It was also noticed that none of them use mouthguard although most of them are aware of it (%75). Results of this pilot study show the need of comprehensive studies about the players' knowledge of dental trauma and attitudes towards mothguard use to overcome this problem.
