ÖZETBir kimsenin istenilen bir hedefe ulaşmak amacıyla topladığı mevcut güçlerinin karşısına gelen engele problem denir. Problem çözme temel olarak şu anda nerede olduğumuz, nereye gitmek istediğimiz ve oraya nasıl gideceğimiz hakkında karar vermektir. Bir şeyin aşırısında ya da eksik bir sonucunda problem oluşur. Hemşire, her gün çeşitli problemlerle karşılaşır. Hemşire, birey ve ailelerin sağlık bakım gereksinimlerini karşılamada yetersiz hale gelindiğinde de problem ortaya çıkar. Hemşireler bilimsel yöntemlerden yararlanarak problemlere çözüm getirirler. Hemşirelikte problem çözmede, problem fark edildiğinde problemi çözmek için problem çözme adımlarından ve problem çözme sürecinden yararlanırlar. Problem çözme sürecini kullanma hemşirelere zaman kaybını azaltır, doğru problem çözmeye götürür, hemşirenin, bakım verdiği birey/aile/toplumun memnuniyeti artar, hemşirenin iş doyumu, iletişim yeteneği güçlenir, bakımın kalitesi artar, verdiği bakım kayıt edilmiş olur.
