Objective: The aim of this study is to determine relationship between perception of handicap and functional disability in patients more than 60 years old with type 2 diabetes.Method: 58 female and 42 male elderly person (over the age of 60 years) were participated in our study. Demographic characteristics of participants were recorded in the study. Participiants' perception of handicap about diabetes measured by interference subscale of Multidimensional Diabetes Questionnaire. This scale consists 9 question. A likert scale 0 (no obstacle for participant) to 6 (often obstacle for participant) used for pointing this scale. Participiants' functional disability measured by Health Assesment Questionnaire. There is 20 question in this questionnaire and each question is pointing 0 (can make activity easily) to 3 (can not make activity) for each special functional activity. Results: Mean age of participiants was 69.44 ± 6,65 years old. The average of perception of obstacle point was 20,47±11,82 and average of functional disability was 0,66± 0,73. Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı 60 yaş ve üstü tip II diyabetli yaşlılarda algılanan engelliliğin fonksiyonel yetersizlikle ilişkisini belirlemektir.Yöntem: Çalışmamıza 60 yaş ve üstü 58 kadın, 42 erkek olmak üzere 100 tip II diyabetli yaşlı birey dahil edilmiştir. Çalışmada bireylerin demografik bilgileri kayıt edilmiştir. Katılımcıların diyabetle ilgili engel algıları Çok Boyutlu Diyabet Anketinin “Engel Algısı Alt Ölçeği” ile değerlendirilmiştir. Bu ölçek 9 sorudan oluşmaktadır. Likert tip skala ile 0 ( birey için bir engel teşkil etmiyor) ile 6 (birey için sıklıkla engel teşkil ediyor) arasında değişen bir puanlama yapılmaktadır. Katılımcıların fonksiyonel yetersizlik düzeyleri Sağlık Değerlendirme Anketi ile değerlendirilmiştir. Anket 20 maddeden oluşmakta olup her bir madde özel bir fonksiyonel aktivite için 0 (katılımcı aktiviteyi hiç zorlanmadan yapar) ile 3 (katılımcı aktiviteyi yapamaz) arasında puanlanmaktadır. Sonuçlar: Katılımcıların yaş ortalaması 69.44±6.65 yıl, ortalama engel algı puanı 20.47±11.8, bireylerin fonksiyonel yetersizlik düzeyi ortalama ise 0.66±0.73 puandı.
