OBJECTIVE: Discoloration in oral mucosa and gingival tissues have diagnostic value in regard to various local and systemic diseases or chemical toxicity. Lesions on skin and mucous membranes, inflammation and neurologic symptoms may arise due to inhalation of or dermal contact to bromine. Beside, halitosis and pigmentation on buccal mucosa and tongue may develop as oral findings. The purpose of this case report was to present the diagnosis, treament and 5-years follow-up of the patient who worked with bromine and developed localised gingival pigmentation during the working period. CASE REPORT: Male patient with a gingival discoloration complaint, aged 34, enrolled in Suleyman Demirel University Faculty of Dentistry was referred to our clinic due to gingival discoloration. It was recorded that patient worked on food analysis for last 6 months, utilised bromin and pigmentation occured during this period. Clinical, radographic and histopathologic evaluations were carried out. Due to existence of brown-black pigmentations and absence of inflammatory infiltrate in histopathologic samples additive to clinical evaluation remarked that the pigmentation could have been cause by bromine. |

AMAÇ: Oral mukoza ve gingival dokulardaki renk değişiklikleri, çeşitli lokal ve sistemik bir hastalıklar veya kimyasal toksisite açısından diagnostik değer taşır. Toksik bir element olan bromun inhalasyonu veya deri teması sonucu deri ve müköz membranlarda lezyonlar, enflamasyon ve nörolojik bulgular gelişebilir. Ayrıca oral bulgu olarak halitozis ve bukkal mukozada, dilde pigmentasyon oluşabilir. Bu olgu raporunun amacı, brom ile çalışan ve bu süreçte lokalize gingival pigmentasyon gelişen hastanın tanısını, tedavisini ve beş yıl sonraki takibini sunmaktı.OLGU SUNUMU: Dişetinde oluşan renklenme şikayeti ile Süleyman Demirel Üniversitesi Dişhekimliği Fakültesi'ne başvuran 34 yaşındaki erkek hasta ilk muayenesinin ardından dişetindeki renklenmenin değerlendirilmesi talebi ile kliniğimize gönderildi. Hastanın gıda analizi üzerine çalıştığı ve bu işlemler sırasında brom kullandığı ve dişetindeki renklenmenin bu dönemde oluştuğu kaydedildi. Gerekli klinik, radyografik ve histopatolojik değerlendirmeler yapıldı. Histopatolojik örneklerdeki kahverengi-siyah pigmentasyonlar ve enflamatuar infiltrasyonun olmayışı, klinik hikaye ile birlikte bu renkleşmenin broma ait olabileceğini düşündürdü. |
