Both obesity and periodontal disease are significant diseases that affect the quality of life, especially in developing countries. In our country, approximately 25% of the adult population classified as obese, whereas it has been thought that the count of subject with periodontal disease also has been dramatically more. Because both diseases have an inflammatory component, recent studies focus on the relationship between obesity and periodontal disease. In this review we summarize the underlying potential mechanisms for the association of periodontal disease and obesity. |

Obezite ve periodontal hastalık özellikle gelişmekte olan ülkelerde yaşam kalitesini olumsuz etkileyen iki önemli hastalıktır. Yakın dönemde yapılan çalışmalarda ülkemizdeki erişkin popülasyonunun yaklaşık %25'i obez olarak sınıflandırılırken, periodontal hastalıklı birey sayısının da azımsanamayacak kadar fazla olduğu düşünülmektedir. Son yıllardaki çalışmalar, her iki hastalığın da enflamatuvar komponentlerinin mevcudiyeti hipotezinden hareketle, periodontal hastalık ve obezite ilişkisine odaklanmaktadır.
