Geleneksel Arap kasidesinde birlik ve bütünlük tek bir kâfiye ve vezinle sağlanıyordu. Bu ise İkinci Dünya Savaşı ve ardından 1948’de yaşanan Filistin trajedisinden itibaren biçimi anlamın önüne geçirdiği için tenkit edilmeye başlandı. Artık dönemin Arap şairleri de Batıdan da etkilenerek serbest vezinle şiirlerini yazmaya başladılar. Bedr Şâkir es-Seyyâb da bu anlayışla toplumunun içinde boğuştuğu fakirlik, vatanının işgali ve sömürülmesini, halkının hüznünü, öfkesini ve kurtuluş ümidini serbest vezinle yazdığı “Yağmurun Türküsü” adlı şiirinde dile getirmiştir. Onun bu eseri Arap Edebiyatında serbest şiirin ilk örneklerinden kabul edilmiştir. es-Seyyâb, biçimden ve şekilden çok, serbest şiirin kendine verdiği rahatlıkla anlama yönelmiştir. Böylece o şiiri, hedef ve gayesine ulaşmak için bir vasıta olarak kullanmıştır. |

Unity and integrity in traditional Arabic eulogy is used to be provided through a single rhyme and prosody. This has been criticized from the time of Second World War and in the following years of the Philistine tragedy in 1948, as it gave priority to its shape rather than its meaning. Since then, the Arab poets who had inspirations from the Western poets began to write their poems with free rhythm. Badr Shakir al-Sayyab has also expressed his poems with free rhythm. His poem entitled as the “Rain's Song" is that type of his poems. In his poem, he mentioned especially the sadness of the people, people’s poverty, occupation and exploitation of his motherland as well as angry, salvation and hopes of his society. His work has been accepted as the first example of free poetry in Arabic Literature. With the comfort of free poetry, Sayyab gave more importance to the meaning and understanding of the poems rather than their formats and shapes.
