In the society, it is seen that there have been some stereotypes about nursing profession from past to present. These stereotypes in the society affect the thoughts and behaviours of individuals and direct their thoughts and behaviours, whether they want it or not. In the study, it is aimed to make an evaluation about the nature of the stereotypes about the profession of nursing in the light of the concepts related to attitude, stereotype and social information theory. It is seen that the profession of nursing is perceived by the society as “a lower occupational group that is the assistant of the physician who just gives an injection and take blood”. For the stereotypes about nursing profession in the society it is necessary to take actions for the professionalization of the nursing profession. It is thought that these negative stereotypes in the society can to a certain amount be reduced by presenting the profession of nursing as a professional profession, by improving working conditions of nurses, and by offering promotion and career opportunities. |

Toplum içerisinde hemşirelik mesleğine yönelik geçmişten günümüze kadar süregelen birtakım kalıpyargıların olduğu görülmektedir. Toplumda var olan bu kalıpyargılar birey istese de istemese de bireyin düşünce ve davranışlarını etkilemekte, bireyin düşünce ve davranışlarına yön vermektedirler. Bu çalışmada, tutum, kalıpyargı ve sosyal bilgi teorisi ile ilgili kavramlar ışığında hemşirelik mesleğine yönelik kalıpyargıların mahiyetine ilişkin bir değerlendirme yapılması amaçlanmıştır. Hemşirelik mesleğinin toplum tarafından “hekimin yardımcısı, sadece iğne yapıp kan alan, alt bir meslek grubu” olarak algılandığı görülmüştür. Hemşirelik mesleğine yönelik toplumda var olan bu kalıpyargıların kırılması için hemşirelik mesleğinin profesyonelleşmesine yönelik çalışmaların yapılması gerekmektedir. Medyada hemşirelik mesleğinin profesyonel bir meslek olarak sunulması, hemşirelerin çalışma koşullarının iyileştirilmesi, terfi ve kariyer imkânlarının arttırılması ile toplumda var olan bu olumsuz kalıpyargıların bir nebze de olsa azaltabileceği düşünülmektedir. |
