dc.description Three-dimensional (3D) gelatin nanofibers with novel architectures were fabricated by electrospinning using organic acids such as tannic acid and maleic acid. Gelatin type A polymer was dissolved in acetic acid and pure water at 10wt.% concentration. Maleic acid and tannic acid were later on added into this solution in different ratios for preparing divergent solutions in order to differentiate nanofiber architecture. Nanofibers were then electrospun at 17kV and collected onto a metal collector plate. Organic acids within solution provided a high charge activity during electrospinning enabling neighboring fibers to repel each other. This phenomenon led to the formation of three-dimensional nanofibers having great versatility. Camera shots and scanning electron microscopy were used to analyze morphology and step by step production. Amongst different solution combinations, maleic/tannic 3:1 mixture of pH 4 were observed to provide the most likely promising 3D nanofibrous architecture.
