The adventure of sociology throughout Turkish idea is developed simultaneously with the westernization adventure of the Turkish society. The westernization progress of the Turkish society turned its face to western values which were known more or less but were at the same time outside the Turkish society's social structure and organization. It was the first to encounter of the Enlightenment mentality which was explaning the physical and social world with a different counter-method and instrument then its own perception of the physical and social world. Following this, movements of thought such as Romanticism, new Positivism, New Realism, Historical Materialism and Evolutionism have entered the Turkish intellectual life. In this sense, sociology was regarded by the Ottoman intellectuals as a science which would guide the society for westernization, economic development and modernization. Evolutionist sociology that can be easily observed in the preparation and formation stages, seems to have ended with the Behice Boran in the development stage. |
