The aim of the present study was to investigate effects of different stressors on the erythrocyte antioxidant enzyme activities of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss W., 1792). Rainbow trout fish were exposed to high water, handling and low water level stress applications. Groups I, II, III and IV were used as control, high temperature, handling and low water level, respectively. Blood samples were collected and analyzed to determine the effects of stress on some antioxidant enzymes, glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD), glutathione reductase (GR), glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and catalase (CAT). At the end of experiment, GPx and CAT activities in the group II, III and IV were significantly higher than in the control group. G6PD activity in the group II was significantly increased although in the in the group III and IV were significantly decreased. GR activity was increased in the group II and III, but decreased in the group IV. In this study, we found that stress applications induce for oxidative stress in rainbow trout and antioxidant enzyme activities are affected to negative from this situation. |
