dc.description Andesite is classified into the volcanic rock groups, which are constituted a sub-group of magmatic rocks. Andesite has been used in Turkey and many other parts of the world for quite a long time, particularly in civil engineering and architectural procedures. Large-scale andesite production has generated a considerable amount of waste material; almost 70% of gets wasted in the mining, processing, and polishing stages. Andesite contains SiO2 as the main component. Therefore, the waste generated during different stages of production may have pozzolanicity. In this study, the utilisation of andesite waste powder as mineral admixture in concrete was investigated. Firstly, pozzolanicity of andesite waste powder was determined according to the TS EN 450 and ASTM C 618-12. Then, control-specimens and also specimens with fly ash and andesite waste powder were prepared in different cement doses, so that the effectiveness of andesite waste powder has been attempted to determined. Andesite waste powder reached the highest values of efficiency factor (0.79 and 1.29) at utilisation rate of 10% for 28 day and 90 day curing periods. In this case, 40 to 60 kg/m(3) of cement saving can be achieved depending on the strength class of concrete. Therefore, the results obtained from this study show that andesite waste powder may be used as a mineral admixture in the concrete production.
