dc.description Cold regulated dehydrins, COR11, COR19 and the C-terminal part of the COR11 genes from Poncirus trifoliata were amplified and cloned into the pCAMBIA1301 binary vector as fusion with beta-glucuronidase (GUS) reporter gene to determine functionality of the bipartite nuclear localization signal (NLS). When these plasmids and the control plasmids were bombarded into the onion epidermal cells, the expression of the GUS was located in the nucleus and that the COR genes are able to localize GUS in the nucleus indicating that the previously proposed NLS of these genes are functional. Deletion studies showed that the C-terminal half of the COR11 is sufficient for the nuclear localization of the fusion GUS reporter gene.
