The urbanization movement started with the Industrial Revolution and spread throughout the world to many countries. Migration from rural areas to urban areas in particular has caused spatial changes in our country. Urban development has accelerated and increased also in Turkey after the 1980s which has started to put pressure on the important natural resource areas in the vicinity of urban areas. The pressure has developed following urban development and is felt more strongly every day in the national parks which hold a significant position among protected areas. Yozgat camligi National Park which is the study area is located near Yozgat city center. The objective of this study is to determine the spatial changes incurring in Yozgat city center during the past 50 years as well as manifest the socio-spatial impacts of this urban development on national park. In line with this objective the zoning plans for the years 1960, 1980, 2010 and afterwards have been studied to assess the spatial development of Yozgat city and mapped by transferring them into a GIS setting. Furthermore face to face interviews and observations were carried out in the field to assess the socio-spatial impacts of urban development on national park. As a result of the findings obtained from the field studies Yozgat camligi National Park and Yozgat city have intertwined with the impact of urban development and in the ongoing process the national park-urban affiliation have been affected by each other. |
