dc.description Elegy (mersiye) comes from the Arabic root "resa", meaning "enumeration of favors of a dead person". Elegy is a type of verse in the Classical Turkish Poetry. It treats various themes such as pain and sadness upon death, generosity, gallantness, consent to destiny, patience and mortality of the world. It is written out for important religious people, statesmen, individuals in the family, friends and especially Saint Huseyin and Kerbela martyrs. Of poems of this type, elegies of Kerbela have an exclusive place. One of them is the Elegy of Kerbela written out in the form of qasida verse by Safi in the 16th century. It is known to be admired and recited in the ceremonies of Asure during the month of Muharrem. In this paper, the elegy by Safi has been studied in terms of form, content, style and harmony.
