dc.description This study was carried out to determine the fertilization biology of the seven grape (Vitis vinifera) varieties "Mahrabasi", "Ag uzumu", "Yalova incisi", "Antep karasi", "Azezi", "Tuylu kabarcik", and "Tuysuz kabarcik" in Kahramanmaras in 1995. Fruit set level and quality of varieties were examined after self and open pollination. Results show that Mahrabasi and Ag uzumu are self-incompatible, but Antep karasi, Azezi, Yalova incisi, Tuysuz kabarcik, Tuylu kabarcik are self-fertile. In self-pollination treatments, fruit set in Mahrabasi, Ag uzumu, Yalova incisi, Antep karasi, Azezi, Tuylu kabarcik, Tuysuz kabarcik was 0.0, 4.46, 26.22, 22.14, 24.16, 48.26, and 42.85, respectively. In open-pollination treatments: fruit set was 7.13, 9.32, 28.40, 16.70, 19.41, 51.10, and 54.10%, respectively. There were no significant differences between in quality characteristics, such as berry length, width, or weight, seed number or weight, TSS, pH and titratable acidity. However, quality characteristics in free pollination were better than quality characteristics in self pollination treatments for Mahrabasi and Ag uzumu.
