dc.description ObjectiveThe prevalence of obesity is an increasing healthproblem throughout the world. Obesity is also one ofthe major causes of dyslipidemia. There have beenmany studies comparing thyroid hormone levels andbody mass indexes (BMI) in recent years. There arealso studies available in thyroid hormone tests andstudies examining lipid profile. The aim of this studyis to evaluate the effect of normal, low or high ThyroidStimulated Hormone (TSH) levels on High DensityLipoprotein (HDL) levels according to body massindex in adult individuals.Material and MethodsThe study was retrospectively designed with dataanalysis method. The study was applied in the privateuniversity hospital Checkup clinic between December2016 and September 2020; TSH, VKİ, HDL valueswere studied, and data of individuals over 18 years ofage were collected (n=1621). As sociodemographicdata, age and gender data were also recorded for eachpatient. Data was analyzed via SPSS 25.0 packageprogram. Continuous variables are expressed asmean ± standard deviation and median (min, max),and categorical variables are expressed as numbersand percentages. Kolmogorov Smirnov Smirnov testand histograms was used to examine complianceof data to normal distribution. In independent groupreviews Mann Whitney U test and Kruskal WallisVariance Analysis (post hoc: Mann Whitney U test withBonferroni correction) were used. In the examinationof the differences between categorical variables, theKi square test was used. All analysis P0.05).ConclusionIn our study, HDL values of normal people withnormal TSH value were found to be significantlylower than those with high TSH values among peoplewho were normal weight. Although there are somestudies in both adults and children, it is still open toresearch. It would be possible to detect more detailedrelationships on the subject with new studies to becarried out in this field.
