dc.description Objective: Cutaneous small vessel vasculitis (CSVV) is a form of vasculitis that affects small vessels and mainly the post capillary venules. It is characterised most often by palpable purpuric lesions on the lower extremities. CSVV may be idiopathic or it may be associated with infections, drugs, inflammatory diseases and malignancies. In this study we aimed to determine the etiological factors, clinical characteristics, localization and type of the lesions in patients with CSVV in our clinic. Material and Methods: The patients diagnosed with CSVV in our clinic between 2004-2011 were included in the study. Clinical characteristics as localization and type of the lesions, possible etiological factors, presence of extracutaneous symptoms and treatment options were retrospectively evaluated. Results: It was determined that the mean age of 22 female and 28 male patients was 51.63±15.19 and 50.57±20.60 respectively. Cutaneous lesions were most frequently localised on the lower extremity with the palpable purpuric papules and it was determined that pruritus was the most common symptom associated with the lesions. Although any etiological factor could not be determined in 46% of patients, 46% of remaining patients had history of infection and/or use of medication. Six of seven patients with chronic CSVV of more than six-month duration exhbited hypocomplementemia. Systemic corticosteroids were the most commonly used treatment options. Conclusion: The data obtained from our study indicate that infections and drugs should particularly be investigated in the etiology of CSVV patients; and also suggest that decreased serum complement level may be a marker of chronic CSVV.
