Başgil, Türk düşünce tarihinin önemli mütefekkirlerindendir. Onun bilgi ve tecrübeleri günümüz eğitim ve din eğitimi problemlerini çözümlemede ışık tutacaktır. Bu bağlamda araştırma Başgil'in çok yönlü düşünce dünyasında yer bulan eğitim ve din eğitimi anlayışını tespit etmeyi amaçlamaktadır. Araştırma nitel araştırmalardan betimsel tarama modeli ile nitel veri toplama aracı doküman inceleme tekniğiyle gerçekleştirilmiştir. Başgil'in eğitim ve din eğitimi anlayışının tespitini doğru yapabilmek için onun hayatı, eserleri, etkilendiği şahsiyetler, yaşadığı dönemin sosyo-kültürel ve eğitim yapısı incelenmiştir. Başgil'in eğitim anlayışı eğitimin önemli öğeleri üzerinden ele alınmıştır. Bunlar düşünürün eserlerinde sık sık vurguladığı eğitim kurumları, öğretmen, öğrenci ve öğretmen öğrenci ilişkileri olarak belirlenmiştir. Başgil'in eğitimle ilgili görüşlerinden; milli ve manevi kodlarımıza uygun, tenkit ruhunun, irade terbiyesinin yer aldığı, sadece öğrencinin zekâsına değil gönlüne de hitap eden bir eğitim anlayışı hedeflediği sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Ayrıca onun öğretmenin eğitimdeki rolüne ve etkisine de dikkat çektiği gözlemlenmiştir. Başgil'in din eğitimi anlayışını belirlemede de yine kendi eserlerinden hareketle dinin insan hayatındaki yeri, din hürriyetinden doğan haklar, din hürriyetinin sınırları, laiklik ve din eğitimi ilişkisi, örgün ve yaygın eğitimde din eğitimi konuları ele alınmıştır. İncelemelerde onun, din eğitimi görüşlerini dönemin din eğitimiyle ilgili politik ve uygulamada karşılaşılan problemlerin oluşturduğu görülmüştür. O'nun, politik tartışmalarla yaşanan iniş çıkışlı süreçler sonrasında görülen belirsizlik ve sert yaptırımlara; pratik, metodik ve alana uygun çözümler ürettiği tespit edilmiştir. Başgil is one of the important thinkers in the history of Turkish thought. His knowledge and experience will shed light on solving the problems of today's education and religious education. In this context, the research aims to determine Başgil's understanding of education and religious education in his multidimensional world of thought. The research was carried out with the descriptive scanning model, one of the qualitative researches, and the document analysis technique, a qualitative data collection tool. In order to determine Başgil's understanding of education and religious education correctly, his life, works, the personalities he was influenced by, the socio-cultural and educational structure of the period in which he lived were examined. Başgil's understanding of education is discussed through the important elements of education. These were determined as educational institutions, teacher, student and teacher-student relations, which the thinker frequently emphasized in his works. From Başgil's views on education; It has been concluded that it aims at an education approach that is in line with our national and spiritual codes, that includes the spirit of criticism and training of will, and that appeals not only to the mind of the student but also to his heart. It has also been observed that he draws attention to the role and influence of the teacher in education. In determining Başgil's understanding of religious education, the place of religion in human life, the rights arising from freedom of religion, the limits of religious freedom, the relationship between secularism and religious education, and religious education in formal and non-formal education were discussed based on his own works. In the examinations, it was seen that his religious education views were formed by the political and practical problems related to religious education of the period. Uncertainty and harsh sanctions after his ups and downs with political debates; It has been determined that it produces practical, methodical and field-appropriate solutions.
