<p>Hadrianopolis Antik Kenti’nde geçmişten günümüze kadar yapılan kazı çalışmalarıyla üç kilise</p><p>ortaya çıkarılmıştır. Erken Bizans Dönemi’ne tarihlenen bu kiliseler; Hadrianopolis Chora</p><p>Kilisesi, Hadrianopolis Dört Nehir Kilisesi ve Hadrianopolis Kuzeybatı Nekropol Kilisesi</p><p>olarak adlandırılmaktadır. Kiliselere değer katan en önemli özelliklerinden biri, zeminlerinin</p><p>Erken Bizans Dönemi süsleme karakterini yansıtan mozaiklerle bezenmiş olmalarıdır.</p><p>Yukarıda adı geçen üç kilisenin zemin mozaiklerinde; yazıtlarda, geometrik desenlerin içi veya</p><p>çevresinde, ilk bakıldığında pek belli olmayan küçük boyutlu haç motifleri işlenmiştir.</p><p>Bunlardan bazıları bitkisel motif şeklinde yapılmış, bazıları ise küçük kare veya dikdörtgen</p><p>şekillerin birleşimden oluşturulmuştur. Zeminde yer alan haç motiflerinin belirgin olmaması,</p><p>427 tarihli Thedosius Novella’sıyla ilgili olmalıdır. Theodosius Novella’sı ve Iustinianus</p><p>Codex’inde, zeminde haç motifi yapımının yasaklanmasına rağmen, Hadrianopolis</p><p>mozaiklerinde, farklı dekorlar arasına saklanmış haç motifleri yapılması, dönemin mozaik</p><p>sanatçılarının haç motifi yapmaktan kendini alı koyamadıklarıyla açıklanabilir. Bu çalışmada,</p><p>Hadrianopolis zemin mozaiklerindeki gizli haç motiflerinin biçimsel özellikleri ve tipolojisi ele</p><p>alınmıştır. Kiliselerin tarihlendirme sorunsalına da yardımcı olan haç motiflerinin detaylı</p><p>açıklanması ve tanıtılması, bölge arkeolojine olduğu gibi Bizans mozaik sanatına da katkı</p><p>sunabilir.</p> |

<p>Three churches were discovered during the excavations carried out up to now in the</p><p>Hadrianopolis. These churches dated to the Early Byzantine Period are called Hadrianopolis</p><p>Chora Church, Four Rivers Church and Northwest Necropolis Church. One of the most</p><p>important features that add value to the churches is that their floors are decorated with mosaics</p><p>reflecting the ornamental character of the Early Byzantine Period. In the floor mosaics of the</p><p>three churches mentioned above, small-sized cross motifs, which are not obvious at first glance,</p><p>are embroidered in or around the geometric patterns in the inscriptions. Some of these are made</p><p>in the form of floral motifs, while others are formed from a combination of small square or</p><p>rectangular shapes. The fact that the cross motifs on the floor are not distinct may be related to</p><p>the Thedosius Novella dated 427. Despite the prohibition of making cross motifs on the floor</p><p>in Theodosius Novella and Justinian Codex, the use of cross motifs hidden among different</p><p>decorations in Hadrianopolis mosaics can be explained by the fact that the mosaic artists of the</p><p>period could not help but making cross motifs. In this study, the formal features and typology</p><p>of the hidden cross motifs in Hadrianopolis floor mosaics are addressed. The detailed</p><p>explanation and introduction of the cross motifs, which also helps with the problem of dating</p><p>the churches, can contribute to the Byzantine mosaic art as well as to the archeology of the</p><p>region.</p> |
