dc.description © 2022,Milli Egitim. All rights reservedFor effective social studies teaching, awareness of the role of motivation on learning and success is very important in terms of motivating students to learn social studies and maintaining their motivation for the course. In this study, student motivation for social studies class was examined based on the expectancy- value model. Literature review was used in the study. As a result of the study, it was seen that the motivation of the students for the social studies class was not at the desired level. In addition to the students’ low expectancies for success, it has been observed that factors that lead to cost perception such as exam policy applied, traditional teaching practices with the effects of the limited time allocated to teaching, and the difficulty of learning by rote learning instead of using thinking processes can play a role.
