Son yıllarda cep telefonlarından yayılan 900 MHz radyo dalgası (RF) yan etkileri üzerine yapılan çalışmalar hızla artmaya başlamış ve popüler araştırma konularından biri olmuştur. Biz, 900 MHz RF'nın rat lenfosit alt grup yüzdeleri ve lenfositler üzerindeki olası etkilerini in vivo ve kontrollü olarak çalışmayı amaçladık. Hem lenfosit alt grupları ile aktive lenfosit yüzdelerini, lenfosit hücre yüzey algaçlarını, florokrom maddelerle işaretlenmiş antikorlarla boyayıp akım sitometrik olarak inceledik; hem de serum sitokin düzeylerini Th1 ve Th2 baskın yanıtını anlayabilmek için ölçtük. 22 haftalık Spraque Dawley türü ratlar, sırasıyla 5 gün veya 4 hafta (haftada 5 gün) her gün 30 dakika 900 MHz RF manyetik alana maruz bırakılmış 2 RF grubu ve 2 kontrol grubuna ayrıldı. Kontrol grupları da manyetik alan uygulanması dışında aynı şartlara tabi tutuldu. Çalışmaya analiz için her gruptan 13 rat dahil edilirken, enfeksiyon ve teknik problemler nedeniyle her gruptan 2 rat çalışmadan dışlandı. Toplam lökosit sayısında, CD3, CD4, CD8, CD45RA ve CD25 lenfosit yüzdeleri ve IL-4, IL-10, TNF-a ve IFN-y düzeylerinde kısa dönem RF- kontrol ve uzun dönem RF-kontrol grupları arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir değişiklik yoktu. Sonuç olarak kısa dönem ve uzun dönem maruziyette RF ve karşılığı olan kontrol grupları arasında fark yoktu. Daha önceki çalışmalarla paralel olan sonuçlarımız cep telefonu RF maruziyetinin ratların bağışıklık sistem fonksiyonlarını değiştirmediğini desteklemektedir. The researches about the side effects of the 900 MHz radio-frequency (RF) radiation spread from cellular phones have increased and became one of the popular research areas. We aimed to study the effect of 900 MHz RF on rat lymphocyte subgroup percentages and the possible activation effect on lymphocytes in a controlled in vivo study. We detected lypmhocyte subgroup and activated lymphocyte percentages by flow cytometric analysis with fluorochrome labeled antibodies bound to surface antigens of lymphocytes and detected serum cytokine profile of rats to figure out Th1 or Th2 dominance after RF exposure. Twenty-two weeks old Spraque Dawley rats were divided into two RF and two respective control groups of which RF groups were exposed to 5 days or 4 weeks (5 days in a week) of 900 MHz RF magnetic fields for 30 minutes each day. Control group rats were kept in the same conditions except RF exposition. 13 rats of each group were included for analysis for the study where 2 rats from each group were excluded from the study because of infection and technical problems. There were no statistically significant differences between short term RF-control and long term RF - control groups in total leucocyte count, CD3, CD4, CD8, CD45RA and CD25 lymphocyte percentages and in serum IL-4, IL-10, TNF-a and INF-y concentrations. As a result, there were no difference between RF and respective control groups in both short term and long term exposure. Our results, which were in paralel with previous studies, support that 900 MHz RF exposure does not change the immune system functions in rats.
