Yakın zamana kadar fruktoz diyetlerde neredeyse hiç yokken, şimdi modern diyetlerin vazgeçilmezi haline gelmiştir. Bugün birçok yiyecek ve içecek ürününde yaygın olarak kullanılmaktadır. Şu ana kadar yapılmış olan meta analizlerin çoğu obezite, diyabet, kardiyovasküler hastalık ve metabolik sendrom riskinin Yüksek Fruktozlu Mısır Şurubu (YFMŞ)’un tüketimiyle ilişkili olduğunu ortaya koymaktadır. Ayrıca fruktoz içeriği zengin diyetle beslenenlerde tip 2 Diabetes Mellitus benzeri tablo meydana geldiği, insulin direnci, metabolik hasar ve bunlara seconder bilişsel disfonksiyon geliştiğine dair yayınlar mevcuttur. YFMŞ’la tetiklenen korteks, hipokampüs ve serebellum dokularının hasarında Selenyum (SE)’un koruyucu etkisinin araştırılacağı bu çalışmada 40 adet dişi sıçan kullanılmıştır. Kontrol, YFMŞ, YFMŞ+SE ve SE grupları olmak üzere 4 grup oluşturulmuştur. Tedavi grubunun içme sularına 6 hafta boyunca YFMŞ karıştırılıp, içerisine 0,3 mg/kg SE ilave edilmiştir. 6. haftanın sonunda hayvanlar cerrahi eksanguinasyon (kanatma) yöntemiyle ötenazi edilmiştir. Yapılan histopatolojik değerlendirmede YFMŞ’un beyin korteksi, hipokampüs ve serebellum dokusundaki nöronlarda dejenerasyon, hiperemi ve mikrohemorajiler gibi patolojik bulgulara sebep olduğunu göstermiştir. SE’un YFMŞ’nun bu dokularda oluşturduğu patolojik bulguları önemli ölçüde azalttığı görülmüştür. Elde ettiğimiz sonuçlara dayanarak SE’un günlük diyete eklenmesiyle sıklıkla tüketmekte olduğumuz YFMŞ’nın beyinde oluşturduğu ciddi hasara karşı koruma sağlayabiliriz. Until recently, fructose was almost absent in diets, but now it has become an essential part of modern diets. It is widely used in many food and beverage products today. Most of the meta-analyzes conducted so far that the risk of obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease and metabolic syndrome is associated with the consumption of High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS). In addition there are various studies in the literature showing that Diabetes Mellitus type 2 like syndrom, insulin resistance, metabolic derangement, and cognitive disfunction secondery to these impairments have been developed in those who are fed with diets rich in fructose. 40 female rats were used in this study in which the prophylactic effect of Selenium (SE) on the damage of cortex, hippocampus, and cerebellum tissues triggered by was investigated. Four groups were formed as control, HFCS, HFCS + SE and SE groups. HFCS was mixed into the drinking water of the treatment group for 6 weeks and 0.3 mg / kg SE was added into it. At the end of the 6th week, animals were euthanized by surgical exsanguination (bleeding) method. Histopathological evaluation showed that HFCS causesd pathological findings such as degeneration, hyperemia and microhemorrhages in neurons in the brain cortex, hippocampus, and cerebellum tissues. It has been observed that SE significantly reducesd the pathological findings caused by HFCS in these tissues. Based on the results we have achieved, we can protect against serious brain damage caused by the HFCS, which we consume frequently, by adding SE to the daily diet.
