Ağır metaller yüksek oranda çevresel risk oluşturan ve bu nedenle özellikle atık sudan uzaklaştırılması gereken maddelerdir. Bu tez çalışmasında, polimetakrilik asit ana zinciriyle polietilen glikol metil eter akrilat yan zincirleri olan çapraz bağlı polimer sentezlenmiştir. Bu polimerin, çevre ve insan sağlığı için atık sularda ciddi tehdit oluşturan ve belirli sınırlara kadar azaltılması gereken Cu (II) ve Zn (II) iyonlarının adsorpsiyon yöntemiyle uzaklaştırılmasında adsorbent olarak kullanımı araştırılmıştır. Polimer adsorbentin karakterizasyon işlemleri XRD, SEM-EDS ve FTIR teknikleriyle gerçekleştirilmiştir. Bakır ve çinko iyonlarının adsorpsiyonuna etki eden başlangıç metal konsantrasyonu, pH ve sıcaklık parametreleri kesikli deneylerle incelenmiştir. Adsorpsiyon verilerini tanımlamak için Langmuir, Freundlich ve Temkin izotermlerinin kullanılabilirliliği değerlendirilmiştir. Ayrıca, adsorpsiyon işleminin farklı sıcaklıklardaki termodinamiği, polimer adsorbentin rejenerasyonu ve iyon seçiciliği diğer araştırılan başlıklar olmuştur. Adsorpsiyon işlemi sonucunda optimum metal iyon başlangıç konsantrasyonu 25 mg. L -1 , sıcaklık 25 ºC ve pH değeri ise 8 olarak belirlenmiştir. Adsorpsiyon modelleri incelendiğinde Cu (II) ve Zn (II) iyonları için sırasıyla, Langmuir modelinde R 2 değeri 0,95 ve 0,97, Freundlich modelinde R2 değeri 0,997 ve 0,98, Temkin modelinde R2 değeri 0,88 ve 0,92 olarak elde edilmiştir. Bu verilere göre adsorpsiyon işleminin üç model için de uygun olduğu görülmüştür. Termodinamik çalışma sonucunda Cu (II) ve Zn (II) için elde edilen negatif ∆Gº değerleri adsorpsiyon işleminin kendiliğinden olduğunu, Cu (II) için (∆Hº=-27.18 kJ. mol-1 ) ve Zn (II) için (∆Hº=+4.87 kJ. mol-1 ) değerlerinin ise sırasıyla ekzotermik ve endotermik adsorpsiyonu gösterdiği belirlenmiştir. Toplam 3 döngü olarak gerçekleştirilen adsorpsiyon-desorpsiyon işlemlerinde polimer adsorbentin adsorplama yüzdesindeki kararlılık, bu adsorbentin tekrar kullanılabilir bir adsorbent olduğunu ortaya koymuştur. Seçicilik deneylerinde ise, aynı konsantrasyonda Cu (II) ve Zn (II) içeren ortamda elektronegatifliği daha yüksek ve iyonik yarıçapı daha küçük olan Cu (II) iyonları polimer adsorbent tarafından daha yüksek oranda seçilmiştir. Heavy metals are substances that pose a high environmental risk and therefore must be removed from wastewater. In this thesis, a cross-linked polymer with polymethacrylic acid main chain and polyethylene glycol methyl ether acrylate side chains was synthesized. The use of this polymer as an adsorbent in the removal of Cu (II) and Zn (II) ions, which pose a serious threat to the environment and human health in wastewater and which should be reduced up to certain limits, by adsorption method has been investigated. The characterization processes of the polymer adsorbent were carried out by XRD, SEM-EDS and FTIR techniques. Initial metal concentration, pH and temperature parameters affecting the adsorption of copper and zinc ions were investigated by batch experiments. The usability of the Langmuir, Freundlich, and Temkin isotherms was evaluated to describe the adsorption data. In addition, thermodynamics of the adsorption process at different temperatures, regeneration of the polymer adsorbent and ion selectivity were other researched topics. As a result of the adsorption process, the optimum metal ion initial concentration is 25 mg. L-1 , temperature was determined as 25 ºC and pH value was determined as 8. When the adsorption models are examined, the R2 values for Cu (II) and Zn (II) ions has been obtained 0,95 and 0,97 in the Langmuir model, 0,997 and 0,98 in the Freundlich model, and 0,88 and 0,92 in the Temkin model. According to these data, the adsorption process was seen to be suitable for all three models. As a result of the thermodynamic study, the negative ∆Gº values obtained for Cu (II) and Zn (II) indicate that the adsorption process is spontaneous, it was determined that the values (∆Hº=-27,18 kJ. mol-1 ) for Cu (II) and (∆Hº=+4,87 kJ. mol-1 ) for Zn (II) showed exothermic and endothermic adsorption, respectively. The stability in the adsorption percentage of the polymer adsorbent in the adsorption-desorption processes carried out as a total of 3 cycles revealed that this adsorbent is a reusable adsorbent. In the selectivity experiments, Cu (II) ions with higher electronegativity and smaller ionic radius were selected by the polymer adsorbent at a higher rate in the medium containing Cu (II) and Zn (II) at the same concentration.
