Ekonomide büyük bir öneme sahip olan tasarruflar, yatırım ve birikimleri arttırmak suretiyle insanların daha sonraki dönemlerde rahat bir yaşam sürebilmesi ve istedikleri mal ve hizmetleri elde edebilmesini amaçlamaktadır. Bu amacı gerçekleştirmede son yıllarda tercih edilen yollardan biri ise bireysel emeklilik ve tasarruf sistemidir. Bu sistemle insanlar, uzun vadede birikimler yaparak gelecekte hem rahat bir ekonomik hayat yaşamakta, hem de refah düzeylerini bir üst seviyeye çıkararak sosyal statüsünü arttırmaktadır. Bireysel emeklilik sistemiyle, insanlar uzun vadede yüksek gelirler elde etmeyi ve sosyal refah düzeyine ulaşmayı amaçlamıştır. Sosyal güvenlik sisteminden elde edilen emeklilik sonrası gelir yetersizliği oluşmaması adına bireyler bu sisteme uzun vadeli yatırım yaparak emeklilik sonrası hayatlarını ekonomik anlamda kolaylaştırmayı hedeflemektedir. Devlet katkı payı ve emeklilik fonlarından kazanılan birikimle beraber bu sistemde yüksek gelir elde edilebilmektedir. Türkiye'de bu sisteme giriş yapan, katkı payı yatıran insanlar bireysel emeklilik sistemindeki fon büyüklüklerini yıllar geçtikçe arttırmaktadır. Bu çerçevede çalışmanın amacı, sosyal güvenlik sisteminin yetersizliği sonucu tamamlayıcı rol üstlenen bireysel emeklilik ve tasarruf sistemininTürkiye'de 2006/4-2022/4tarihleri arasındaki çeyrek dönemlikverilerini kullanılarak bireysel emeklilik sistemifon büyüklüğü ile makroekonomik değişkenler arasındaki ilişkiyi incelemektir. Çalışmada bireysel emeklilik sistemi fon büyüklüğü değişkeni olarak bireysel emeklilik sistemi (BES) toplam reel fon tutarı ve bireysel emeklilik sistemikatılımcı başına reel fon tutarı; makroekonomik değişken olarak enflasyon, döviz kuru, hisse senedi, altın, mevduat faizi ve ekonomik büyüme ele alınmıştır. Belirtilen değişkenler arasındaki ilişkiyi incelemek için öncelikle veri setinin durağan olup olmadığına bakılmıştır. Daha sonra Akaike bilgi kriterine göre verilerin optimal gecikme uzunlukları belirlenmiştir. Ardından belirlenen değişkenler arasında herhangi bir nedensellik olup olmadığına Toda-Yamamoto nedensellik analizi ile bakılmıştır. Son olarak da belirlenen değişkenlere etki tepki testi ve varyans ayrıştırma testleri yapılmıştır. Yapılan Toda-Yamamoto nedensellik analizi sonucunda bireysel emeklilik fon büyüklüğü olarak BES toplam reel fon tutarı alındığı modelde, bireysel emeklilik sistemi fon büyüklüğü ile mevduat faizi, ekonomik büyümeye reel efektif döviz kuru arasında çift yönlü nedensellik ilişkisi bulunmuştur. Bireysel emeklilik fon büyüklüğü olarak BES katılımcı başına reel fon tutarı alındığı modelde ise sadece bireysel emeklilik sistemi fon büykülüğü ile ekonomik büyüme arasında çift yönlü nedensellik ilişkisi bulunmuştur. Mevduat faizi ve reel efektif döviz kurundan bireysel emeklilik sistemi fon büyüklüğüne doğru ise tek yönlü nedensellik ilişkisi bulunmuştur.
Savings, which have a great importance in the economy, aim to enable people to live a comfortable life in later periods and to obtain the goods and services they want by increasing investments and savings. One of the preferred ways of achieving this goal in recent years is the individual pension and savings system. With this system, people not only live a comfortable economic life in the future by making long-term savings, but also increase their social status by increasing their welfare level to a higher level. With the private pension system, people aim to earn high incomes in the long term and reach a level of social welfare. In order to avoid post-retirement income insufficiency obtained from the social security system, individuals aim to make their lives easier economically after retirement by making long-term investments in this system. High income can be obtained in this system with the state contribution and the savings gained from pension funds. In Turkey, people who enter this system and make contributions increase the fund size in the private pension system year by year. In this framework, the aim of this study is to examine the relationship between the fund size of the private pension system and macroeconomic variables by using the quarterly data between 2006/4-2022/4 in Turkey. In the study, the total real fund amount of the private pension system (PPS) and the real fund amount per participant of the private pension system are taken as the private pension system fund size variable; inflation, exchange rate, stocks, gold, deposit interest and economic growth are taken as macroeconomic variables. In order to analyse the relationship between these variables, firstly, it is checked whether the data set is stationary or not. Then, the optimal lag lengths of the data were determined according to the Akaike information criterion. Then, Toda-Yamamoto causality analysis was used to determine whether there is any causality between the identified variables. Finally, impulse response test and variance decomposition tests were performed for the identified variables. As a result of the Toda-Yamamoto causality analysis, a bidirectional causality relationship was found between private pension system fund size and deposit interest rate, economic growth and real effective exchange rate. In the model where real fund amount per PPS participant is taken as the private pension fund size, only a bidirectional causality relationship was found between the private pension system fund size and economic growth. A unidirectional causality relationship was found from the deposit interest rate and real effective exchange rate to the private pension system fund size.
