Okul öncesi olarak adlandırılan dönem, 5 ile 6 yaşındaki çocukların gelişimlerinin ve öğrenmelerinin en hızlı olduğu değerlendirilen evredir. Okul öncesi dönemde verilen bir dizi eğitim vardır. Ancak çocukların asıl gelişim gösterdikleri kabul edilen okul öncesi yaşlarda, onlara verilecek olan zihinsel becerili oyun eğitimleri çok daha önemlidir. Bu oyunlardan biri de satrançtır. Satrancın; çocukların düşünme, akıl yürütme, dikkat arttırma ve problem çözme gibi becerilerini geliştirdiği değerlendirilmektedir. Bu araştırmanın amacı okul öncesi dönemde çocuklara verilen satranç eğitiminin, dikkat ve sekiz ayrı beceri kategorisinde tanımlanan problem çözme becerilerine çocuklar üzerindeki etkisini öğretmenlerin gözünden incelemektir. Çalışma 2022-2023 eğitim öğretim yılında İzmir ilinde özel bir anaokulunda, 60-72 aylık 81 çocukla gerçekleştirilmiştir. Çocuklara satranç eğitimi öncesinde test uygulanmış olup akabinde 12 hafta süren satranç eğitimin ardından aynı test tekrar gerçekleştirilmiştir. Buna ek olarak öğretmenlere uygulanan ölçek tek bir seferlik olup, 12 haftalık satranç eğitimi tamamlandıktan sonra yapılmıştır. Veriler toplandıktan sonra SPSS paket programı ile analizi gerçekleştirilmiş, sonrasında elde edilen bulgular açıklanmıştır. Çalışmada, çocukların dikkat düzeylerinin değişiminin belirlenmesi aşamasına yönelik FTF-K testi kullanılmıştır. Bu testin sonucunda ilginç bir şekilde hem satranç eğitimi alan hem de almayan çocukların dikkatlerinde artış gözlemlenmiştir. Diğer taraftan, satranç eğitiminin çocukların problem çözme becerisine etkisinin ele alındığı uygulamada ise hem gruplar hem de cinsiyetler arasında sekiz beceri kategorisinde de satranç eğitiminin verildiği çocukların, kontrol grubuna göre daha fazla gelişim gösterdikleri ortaya çıkmıştır. Okul öncesi dönemde verilen satranç eğitiminin, çocukların odaklanma ve problem çözme becerileri üzerinde mutlak anlamda olumlu bir etki bıraktığı sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. The period called pre-school is the period in which the development and learning of 5 to 6-year-old children is considered to be the fastest. There are a number of education provided in the pre-school period. However, at the pre-school age, when children are considered to be developing, the mental skill game training they will be given is much more important. One of these games is chess. Chess; It is evaluated that it improves children's skills such as thinking, reasoning, increasing attention and problem solving. The aim of this research is to examine the effect of chess education given to children in preschool period on children's attention and problem-solving skills defined in eight separate skill categories, from the perspective of teachers. The study was conducted with 81 children aged 60-72 months in a private kindergarten in Izmir in the 2022-2023 academic year. The test was applied to the children before the chess training, and then the same test was performed again after 12 weeks of chess training. In addition, the scale applied to teachers was a one-time test and was administered after the 12-week chess training was completed. After the data was collected, it was analyzed with the SPSS package program, and the findings were then explained. In the study, the FTF-K test was used to determine the change in children's attention levels. As a result of this test, interestingly, an increase in the attention of both children who received chess training and those who did not was observed. On the other hand, in the application where the effect of chess training on children's problem-solving skills was discussed, it was revealed that children who were given chess training in all eight skill categories showed more development than the control group, across both groups and genders. It has been concluded that chess education given in preschool period has an absolutely positive effect on children's focus and problem-solving skills.
