Shear walls in reinforcedconcrete buildings are the most necessary structural members for framedstructures especially for the ones existing at the regions with seismic risk inorder to provide the lateral strength and stiffness and to reduce theinterstory drift ratio. Thus, the structural system for a multistory reinforcedconcrete buildings located on seismic regions should be designed as framedstructures with shear walls. The shear wall layout and the dimensions on theplan view play a key role on the seismic behaviour of the framed structure,hence the decision on the location of shear walls for the framed structures isthe main step for the preliminary structural system design. This study aims toinvestigate the effect of shear wall layout in the plan view of reinforcedconcrete buildings on the seismic response parameters as story shear, lateraldisplacements and interstory drift ratio. The finite element analyses of thealternative structure models with different orientations, locations anddimensions of shear walls in plan view have been conducted for a seven storyframed structure to understand the effect of structural system configuration onseismic response of the reinforced concrete buildings.Betonarmeyapılarda, deprem yükleri altında katlar arasındaki yer değiştirmelerinsınırlandırılması ve yeterli dayanımın sağlanması amacıyla kolon ve kirişelemanlarda meydana gelen moment aktaran çerçevelere ilave olarak perdekullanımına da ihtiyaç duyulmaktadır. Özellikle çok katlı binalarda perdeleryapı sisteminin yatay rijitliğini artırarak göreli kat öteleme değerleriniazaltır. Bu sebeple özellikle deprem riski altındaki bölgelerde inşa edilenbetonarme yapılar, perde ve çerçeveli taşıyıcı sistem olarak tasarlanmaktadır.Perdelerin binanın kat planındaki yerleşimi ve boyutları binanın yatay yükleraltındaki davranışını belirler; dolayısı ile perdenin konumunun belirlenmesitaşıyıcı sistem tasarımında en temel aşamayı oluşturmaktadır. Bu çalışmada,betonarme perde ve çerçeveli yapılarda farklı yön ve farklı boyutlarda perdelerkonumlandırılmış ve yapının deprem davranışı yer değiştirmeler, göreli katötelemeleri ve kat kesme kuvvetleri açısından incelenmiştir. Ayrıca, çerçevesistem, perdeli sistem ve perde-çerçeveli sistemlerde taşıyıcı elemanların önboyutlandırılmasının yapısal davranış üzerindeki etkileri tartışılmıştır.
