Bu çalışma, toplumlar tarafından tarihi süreç içinde oluşturulan hafıza ve anıların korunup saklandığı alanlarolan hafıza mekânlarının, ulusal simge, kültürel kimlik ve mekânsal sürdürülebilirliklerini peyzaj mimarlığıkapsamında irdeleyerek en büyük güncel sorunlardan olan kentlerdeki kimliksizleşme ile yerel kültürü yansıtanbu alanların olumsuz etkileşim ve dönüşümü konusunda farkındalık yaratmak amacı ile gerçekleştirilmiştir.Hafıza mekânları; doğrudan duyu organları ile algılanabilen fiziksel alanların yanı sıra fiziksel boyut ile yankıbulan ve duyumsal, zihinsel etkileri olan alanlar bağlamında da değerlendirilmiştir. İstanbul, Tarihi Yarımada,UNESCO Dünya Kültür Mirası Listesi’ nde yer alan taşınmaz kültür varlıkları kapsamında tartışılmıştır. Bu çalışmaile ulusal kimlik ve hafıza mekânlarının hızla tüketildiği bir süreçte ülkesel ve ulusal kimlik oluşumu açısındanbirincil derecede öneme sahip hafıza mekânlarının önemi vurgulanarak korunması ve sürdürülebilirliğikapsamında farkındalık yaratılması ve bilinç oluşturulması hedeflenmiş, bu anlamda peyzaj mimarlığı meslekdisiplini katkıları tartışılmıştır. _______________________________________________________Landscape Architecture and Places of Memory:İstanbul Historical Peninsula Case AbstractThis study aims to emphasize the importance of places of memory which are preserved and kept by the societiesthroughout history in the frame of national icons, cultural identity and spatial sustainability in case of landscapearchitecture to create consciousness about these areas which reflect the local culture with unplanneddevelopments in the physical environment to create awareness that it is adversely affected. Places of memorywas studied in terms of physical (can be directly sensed by sensory organs) and mental dimensions(multifunctional, perceivable by everyone), for the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List in İstanbul HistoricalPeninsula case.
