In this study, three different inset-fed microstrip antenna arrays including single element, 1×2 and 1×4 elements have been designed and differences among them have been demonstrated. Designed antennas are at X band (8–12GHz) and the resonance frequency is approximately 10GHz. Simulations have been performed using CST Microwave Studio program. In the simulation, perfect electric conductor (PEC) as metal and the Rogers 3003 as the dielectric layer have been selected, and thicknesses are t = 0.035mm and h = 0.762mm respectively. Since antenna impedance is greater than line impedance, impedance matching has been made with inset-fed microstrip line and the quarter-wave transformer. Basic antenna design parameters of each antenna have been examined and the sizes of the antennas have been tabled. The results for return loss, VSWR, −10dB bandwidth, directivity, gain, radiation efficiency, 3dB beam width, side lobe level, the patterns of E-plane and far-field patterns have been compared with each other.
