Description:
Nontyphoid Salmonella serotypes are pathogens usually transmitted by foods causing bacteraemia, gastroenteritis or focal infections. The incidence of bacteremia varies depending on the season, geographical conditions and host factors The elderly, chronic, and immunosuppressive diseases are risk factors for nontifoidal salmonella bacteremia. These diseases are malignancies, rheumatologic diseases, TNF blockage, transplantation, HIV infection and congenital immune defects. In cancer patients under chemotherapy or corticosteroids, these bacteria might cause more severe clinical diseases. In patients with normal immunity, 1-4% of Salmonella gastroenteritis is bacteremia. When the immune system is weakened, the incidence of Salmonella bacteremia increases. Bacteriemia can result in pancytopenia. Quinolones are widely used in the treatment of Salmonella infections. This study aimed to report a case of ciprofloxacin-resistant Salmonella enteritidis bacteriemia in patient with prostate cancer.
