Description:

Handmade quilts have an important place in Turkishculture with their embroidery and the value of the fabricsused in their sewing. In the Ottoman period, quilt makerswere among the artisan guilds. Today, quilt making, whichis included in both the bazaar arts and home arts, isunfortunately under the shadow of fabricated products.Although the tradition of sewing quilts in homes isgradually decreasing, quilt makers all over our countrycontinue to sew embroidered quilts, albeit in smallnumbers, on order. However, it should be known that it isnot just a profession or handicraft product that is about todisappear. At the same time, our traditions and customsare about to disappear with hand-made quilts. Readymade quilts are preferred more by the consumers due totheir ease of use and cleaning, and their cheaper price. Inparallel with this, the quilt making profession has turnedinto ready-made quilt sewing in order to resist moreconsumer demand and time compared to handmadequilts.
