Bu çalışmanın amacı, diş hekimliği öğrencilerinin COVID-19 pandemisi süresince bulaşıcı hastalığa yakalanma korkularını, COVID-19 pandemisinin eğitimlerine ve depresyon düzeylerine etkisini tespit etmekti. Bu kesitsel anket çalışmasında uygulanacak anketler Google Forms aracılığıyla diş hekimliği fakültesi öğrencilerine dağıtılmıştır. Ankette; demografik bilgiler, pandeminin diş hekimliği eğitimi üzerine etkisini sorgulayan sorular ve öğrencilerin depresyon düzeylerinin belirlenmesi için Zung depresyon ölçeği soruları yer almaktaydı. Ankete 163'ü erkek 250'si kadın 413 öğrenci katıldı. Öğrencilerin %48,4' ü diş hekimliği hizmeti sırasında COVID-19'a yakalanma olasılığının 'çok fazla' ve %42,1'i klinik eğitim faaliyetleri sırasında ise 'orta derecede' olduğunu bildirdi. Öğrencilerin %32,4’ü 'çok fazla', %25,4'ü 'aşırı boyutta' COVID-19 pandemisinin eğitim kariyerlerini olumsuz etkilediğini belirtti. Öğrencilerin %44,6’sı COVID-19 pandemisinin pratik becerilerin kazanılmasına 'büyük' oranda etkilediğini düşünmektedir. Öğrencilerin çoğunluğu (%57,4) uzaktan eğitimin yüz yüze eğitimin yerini alamayacağını belirtti. Klinik eğitim faaliyetlerinin COVID-19'a yakalanma riskine 'aşırı boyutta' maruz bırakacağını düşünen öğrencilerin çoğunluğu depresyon ölçeği skorlarına göre depresyondaydı (p=0,001). COVID-19 pandemisinin eğitim kariyeri üzerinde olumsuz etkisinin 'aşırı boyutta' ve 'çok fazla' cevabını verenlerin çoğunluğu hafif depresyon skoruna sahipti (p=0,03). Hafif ve belirgin düzeyde depresyonda olan öğrencilerin çoğunluğu kadındı. Çalışmanın sonuçlarına göre öğrenciler çevrim içi eğitimin yüz yüze eğitimin yerini alamayacağı düşüncesindeydi. Mesleki açıdan COVID-19’a yakalanma riskinin çok fazla olduğu düşüncesi öğrencilerin birçoğunda depresyon nedeni olarak belirlendi.The aim of this study was to determine dental students' fears of contracting infectious diseases during the COVID-19 pandemic and to assess the impact of the pandemic on their education and levels of depression. The questionnaire forms were distributed to dentistry faculty students via Google Forms in this cross-sectional survey study. The questionnaire included demographic information, questions about the impact of the pandemic on dental education, and the Zung depression scale to determine students' depression levels.413 students, 163 male and 250 female, participated in the survey. The majority of students (48.4%) reported that a dentist had a 'very high' probability of contracting COVID-19 during their dental service and 42.1% reported a 'moderate' risk of contracting COVID-19 during clinical training activities. 32.4% of the students stated that the COVID-19 pandemic affected their education careers ‘too much’ and 25.4% reported ‘extremely’. 44.6% of the students think that the Covid 19 pandemic has ‘greatly’ affected their acquisition of practical skills. The majority of students (57.4%) stated that distance education cannot replace face-to-face education.The majority of the students, who thought clinical education activities would expose them to an 'extreme' risk of contracting COVID-19, were depressed according to the depression scale scores (p=0.001). The majority of those who answered 'extremely' and 'very much' about the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on their educational career had a mild depression score (p=0.03). The majority of those who answered 'too much' and 'extremely' to the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on their educational career had mild depression scores (p=0.03).The majority of students who were mildly and moderatelydepressed were women.According to the results of the study, students thought that online education could not replace face-to-face education. The thought that there is a high risk of contracting COVID-19 professionally was determined as the cause of depression in most students.
